No Opinion Wanted

Image description: Side view of a man, with an obvious cold, he has tissue at his nose and a tear running from his eye.

I have a cold.

I've had it for the whole long weekend.

My nose is clogged, I've gone through a few ton of tissue and as a result my nose is rubbed raw. As a result of that, my CPAP machine and my nose wrestled all night.

Shit.

You know, being in a wheelchair is one thing.

Having a cold is another thing entirely.

I'm tired, and sick, and I'm about to leave for work.

Right.

Fun.

But that's life isn't it.

Everyone does it.

No one says, 'I'd rather be dead than have a cold.'

No, they cope, and they go on.

Being in a wheelchair, for me, is less disabling, right now, than having a cold. And you know what, I'm not considering suicide. Imagine that.

Wouldn't want a doctor's opinion though!

Oh dear! Sending thoughts of hot tea, warm housecoats, and lotion-infused tissues your way. The fact that we can't stay home from work, simply to be miserable in peace, is a shame.

What Kat said. Lotion or eucalyptus infused tissues are the best! Hope you are feeling better.

Cloth hankies are also kinder on the nose, though I realize this is no help when you've started a cold and don't already have a quite generous supply of hankies on hand. You need dozens and dozens to get through just a few days of a typical cold. (Ask me how I know. For me I have allergies 24/7/365 so it makes sense to invest in a generous mountain of hankies, but.)

Hope you feel better soon. Drink plenty of fluids. For a sore throat, try drinking warm/hot fluids, as these are supposed to help relax the throat muscles ... though it only really helps for as long as you are drinking it.

There is something about a cold that sucks the life out of you. I've had 10 surgeries, and I don't think any one of them made me as grumpy as having a cold. It somehow turns an independent thinking person into a lump of sweaty moaning of shapeless clay. Ugh. Sorry your are feeling badly. This too will pass, but until then be good to yourself.
