Question

It was a big beautiful salad. You could smell the high quality balsamic vinegar that had been drizzled over it. People gasped as they walked by the patio on the sidewalk, it was a thing of art, beauty even. Here's what was in it ...

greens with smooth edges
greens with ragged edges
greens with red veins
greens with purple veins
greens that were torn
greens that were whole
dried cranberries
sliced strawberries
sliced pears
sliced orange
pecans

I ordered it because they didn't have much that was vegetarian, it was the only patio that was accessible, we wanted to eat outside on a beautiful day. Joe ordered pasta. He always orders pasta. I'm not a big pasta fan. So, he had his and I had mine. We talked about stuff. We watched people go by. I had a tea. He had a beer. It was all very nice.

When we left the patio my stomach began screaming, "Whoa, whoa, there big boy!" I was being served notice that this was lovely but it wasn't food. By the time we got home I actually felt weak! I got upstairs and had several spoonfuls of leftovers from the day before. A little protien and I was good to go.

A beautiful description of the salad. I never know how to describe the greens and I never know their names.

I'm a vegetarian, but I won't eat salad for a meal unless I can heap tofu, beans, or cheese on it.

I'm with Jennifer. Protein is what that salad was missing. Some nice feta cheese, some flavored tofu.

The thing about skinny people is that they're not like us. I think it's a mistake to picture that they are having the same sensations we are, but in skinny bodies. They're physiologically different. And sometimes they do fall over.

Ditto on the protein. You had fiber and fructose, which shot your blood glucose through the roof and then crashed it down on your head.

Skinny people don't eat like that. Healthy eating crosses all sizes.

Stereotyping. That's like assuming all fat people eat ice cream and chips.

I admire salads in theory, and revile them in practice. Pasta, on the other hand, is something I can get behind.

'Cause skinny people don't all eat like that. Those that do are often cranky, headachy, and spacy from lack of enough food.

Shan, the pasta "gets behind" too. Ha ha! Couldn't resist.

I think that everyone should watch the DVD Babette's feast. There are layers of meaning in that story of sober self denial, which culminates in everyone finally getting it right and enjoying the feast spread before them to the full. I loved it.

One of my favourite quotes from The Colour Purple, is, "I think it pisses God off when we don't notice the colour purple." The same would apply to food.
