I am officially an old fuddy duddy.
Yesterday afternoon, after we got home from work, I sat down in my chair. We flicked on '24' and began to watch Jack get through an hour of his very first of many bad days. There was lots of action, lots of tension and it moved at a great pace. I was engrossed.
Then.
I wasn't.
I was sound asleep in my chair. Joe knew I'd been through a fairly stressful few weeks and decided to just let me sleep. So he stuck a yellow sticky on the remote control for the television, which was tucked in my hand, telling me he was going out shopping for a wee bit.
Waking suddenly, a bit disoriented, I hadn't slept that soundly for quite a while. I saw that the program was paused. I listened carefully and the place sounded silent. Finally I called Joe to find out where he was and he told me about the yellow sticky, which I found easily, and he said he'd be home in a few minutes.
What's a fella to do?
Yep.
I went back to sleep.
I guess I've been an IMAX sized fuddy-fuddy for several years now: Back when J. J Abrams' reboot of Star Trek came out, I had a bit of a headache when the movie started. I feel asleep for about 10 minutes, not during quiet dialog, but, during a lengthy full on action sequence, pounding Dolby THX sound and all.
ReplyDeleteyou're too wise to be a buddy-duddy, in my book. But sleeping when your body needs sleep..that's the wisdom of an elder who has learned to do the next right thing..and when it is sleep, sleep it is!

It's always disorienting waking from an unexpected nap. For me, it usually happens sitting at my computer when I'm typing something. I'll wake up to see several lines of "fffffffffffff." Always a clue.
ReplyDeleteRest when you need it and when you can. You probably need it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had the surprise nap, but I have fallen asleep reading and an hour or two later woken up wondering WTF?
ReplyDeleteAnd then my cat looks at me with a "Why are you MOVING, human?" look and I shut off the light and go back to sleep. Ah, cats.
Precious, healing sleep! Beats even 24... From a fellow fuddy.
