Today

  Today is my birthday.

Today I get to go to a job that I love.

Today I get to enjoy all that I love.

Today I get to live with a man that I love.

Today I get to unwrap another day.

Today is my birthday.

Today I get to open my eyes to a day
where I am excited to look to the future.

Today I get to open my eyes to a day
where I am unafraid, blessed be, to look to the past.

Today I get to open my eyes to a day where
I expect joy, as I expect joy, everyday.

Today I get to open my eyes to a day
where I get to open my eyes.

Today is my birthday.

Today I can fight another battle.

Today I can strive to be a better person.

Today I can live a little 'righter'.

Today I can pray a little more deeply.

Today is my birthday.

Today I get to be thankful.

Today I get to be thoughtful.

Today I get to be grateful.

Today I get to be cake-ful.

Today is my birthday.

The shortest day of the year.

The longest night of the year.

The coldest evening.

The brightest morning.

Today is my birthday.

And though I had nothing to do with it.

I'm mighty pleased, at the privilege of having another one.

Yes.

Indeed.

Today is my birthday

  34. Just under the wire, a happy birthday and year ahead!

The world is a better place because you were born. You have been brave enough to speak out loud exactly what you think. No doubt this has sometimes got you into trouble :) but it has also caused deeper reflection; changed thinking; good pride; opened eyes and the building of a disability community.

  38. Belated birthday wishes Dave!

I always think 21 Dec and 21 June two magical days to be born on. Those dates are the ones I'd choose if I got a choice!
In ancient Irish culture 21st Dec is a magical day, depicted by New Grange and all that represents!

    I love your poem!
My wish for you for 2012 is that you have love, light and joy in your heart! xxxxx Linda (LinMac) in Dublin
