Of course, it would be awesome if we could have enforced courses for adults on how not to be an asshole, too... but I'm reaching for the stars on that one! Sorry, that was mean. But honestly, I understand. So often, it feels like we are surrounded by children disguised as adults.

I think that after thousands of years of organized schooling, early in every child's life, that Social Studies courses needs at least one chapter, if not an entire year, teaching about disabilities, ableism, etc.Frank_Vhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15707525224938640688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35743239.post-909876103239810332017-02-02T17:41:32.179-05:002017-02-02T17:41:32.179-05:00I shall say it again: people don't think befor...I shall say it again: people don't think before they open their mouths.

Of course you can hold a door. I do it all the time, even in my walker. Just this week I was coming in from the car to a doctor visit. I drove myself, got out the walker, and was walking toward the door, when a woman yelled at me that she would be happy to hold the door for me.

She was very far away. The door is a powered one WITH a big obvious button. I told her no, and then made a comment about not leaving the house if I can't handle all the details of where I'm going. She seemed surprised.

I would have had to hurry (I hate that) while under the gaze of someone blocking a power-assisted door who was letting cold air into the building. No thought going on there, but she probably thought she had wonderful intentions of helping the poor disabled woman.

Sometimes you just can't think of something to say.

Yes, it is hard to do these things. No, I don't expect a gold star. Just stay out of my way.
ABEhrhardthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17211038591900883672noreply@blogger.com
