Let me know if that helps.

DaveDave Hingsburgerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11918601687946534172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35743239.post-2264240917350323512008-11-02T08:59:00.000-05:002008-11-02T08:59:00.000-05:00I wish my son's EA had been at your talk. Fac...I wish my son's EA had been at your talk. Fact is, I have heard her say the R-word at least 5 times.
The first time we had a discussion as to how that word made me feel. She agreed, and apologized, & asked me to call her on it if I heard her use it again.
The second time she used it we were in the staff room. I corrected her & she again apologized, but a *%#* teacher jumped in to say that the word was not offensive & that it was the same as calling something "Gay". I told him that if he were working with a gay child & using the word gay in a derogatory way, then he would just be ignorant. He kept trying to defend his point of view, but other teachers stepped in to defend mine.
The next day I was called into the office & warned that I was not to bring up "controversial" stuff in the staff room. My @#*& collegue had gone to her & told her that I had made him feel uncomfortable & that our staff room should be a place where everybody feels comfortable. I felt so deflated by the end of that meeting & vowed to avoid the staff room as much as possible.
The third time I heard her was only a day or 2 after thins. She was relating a story about her son, repeating what he said to his dad. I ignored her this time.
The fourth time I heard her she came into the computer lab and was upset because she missed her break. It was so R*******! I said "It is so WHAT!!!" She apologized yet again.
It is so hard to have someone working with your child day in & day out who you know uses this language. It kills me, in fact. I feel powerless to stop her, since I have already been repremanded by my boss.

I really wish you could come her to the Niagara Region to give your talk. I know at least one EA (& one idiot teacher, & one principal)who are in desperate need of one of your talks. I am sure it carries more weight than the words of one "Hysterical" mother.

Anjie
mom to Adam (6)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
