I'm listening to "Quiet Leadership" an audio-book, and one of the principles taught is asking permission to talk about personal issues--giving people the option to say, "I'd rather not" or "Maybe later"--giving the control to the other person. I thought of that with the word "Open?" I thought it was wonderful that you simply listened, and a rare gift.Belindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09251920708783268740noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35743239.post-86494196138682370732013-11-21T14:34:52.459-05:002013-11-21T14:34:52.459-05:00Dear Dave:

I so hope that it is the beginning of "open" for him.

I really needed to hear this today. Today I encountered the word "mongoloid" used in a derogatory context. I am surprised at how shaken I am by this - I thought (naively apparently) that this one was long dead. Apparently not.

Thanks for a story with hope - even though it starts with such horrible wounding that this man has retreated from the world - there is hope. He met you and you are a safe enough place that he is considering opening a bit more. Dave, when you have one of those moments where you wonder if what you are doing matters - think about that man.

ColleenColleennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35743239.post-42289629601876578132013-11-21T13:18:43.488-05:002013-11-21T13:18:43.488-05:00That gives me goosebumps - and tears.
