Blogging on Sexuality

Please consider writing a blog on sexuality on February 14th. Sexuality has been denied to people with disabilities. Bodies have been surgically altered. Urges have been chemically destroyed. Relationships have been broken up. Love has been hunted down and killed.

But it's our hearts that make us human. Our love that makes us divine.

Please consider writing a post about love, about sex, about relationships on Valentine's Day.

Notify other bloggers of the event and sign on here. A complete list of bloggers posting will be on Chewing the Fat on the 14th.

Hi Dave, i'm not a blogger, but i will lose my blogger virginity for this! I have a particular interest in how supporters, families, staff and organisations support people with more profound learning disabilities to have initmate relationships and sensual and sexual experiences, especially when there are questions around capacity to consent, safety etc. Needless to say you're work has been a big influence on me and our organisation! I am interested in how to find the balance between privacy and the reality that without some well planned, proactive support, many people with more profound disabilities have their sexuality swept under the carpet and denied fora lifetime. I wil try and write something on this. Not very romantic i know but realistic for lots of folk i think!

Hi Dave, sign me up, I will write about it. My son who has Down Syndrome is 14. I will write about how I hope that he will find his hearth's desire one day and be in a loving and fullfilling relationship.

I'm in also, although I need more help than I have wisdom to offer.

I may not remember to do this, but I'll try. I think it's really important because chances are what I'll be saying no one else will even mention (that's what I've seen in most discussions of disability and sexuality).

I have an old blog on the subject.

Didn't expect that of me, did you? It is about my views of Ricki getting married, and broaching the subject with her. If I can think of anything else good, I will try and write it on that day.

Fabulous idea - count me in!

And your other post on this was great; I love that you suggest permission for people to use 'dirty' words or whatever to discuss what is, or should be, a normal, healthy part of peoples' lives.

Something I've been thinking about, too...
